    I tried to do this the day before I went to the grocery store.  Managed to make my soup for lunch out of bits of wilted vegetables and scraps in the refrigerator.  However,  I had more ambitious plans.  It could mean that I'm buying too much at the grocery store.  I lose track of my inventory in the refrigerator.

    Best tip was to reduce recipe size - fantastic - I made 2 servings instead of 4 in the recipe and enjoyed it both the first time and the 2nd time - whereas before I would have made the whole recipe and by 4th serving either was too old and I threw away or simply didn't taste as good - worth the effort to cook smaller portions and eat it all.

    I sometimes buy produce that’s not on my list so that we have a variety of choices at meal time.  But then things get “lost” in the refrigerator and the produce starts to deteriorate.  It’s most likely to happen with vegetables.  Greens, hard squash and green beans are the ones I seem to have the most trouble with.

    My husband and I were told we needed to make some dietary changes so I ordered several meal plan books with those changes in mind.  I've chosen the one that makes the most sense for us and I'll be starting that plan with my next trip to the grocery store.  I have tried meal plans before.  I made one of my own that I used for several years.   I...

    Vegetables are what I toss the most.  I tend to overestimate how long they will last in the refrigerator.  For example I had to throw out some green beans this week because they don't have a very long "shelf life" in the refrigerator.

    I've been buying bulk primarily to decrease packaging.  So looking at it from a food waste perspective will be new for me.
