I joined this challenge to learn new things and continue my efforts to help save the only planet we have to live on.  I have actively been doing my part to make change happen in my home since I was a very small girl.  It annoyed my mom to no end.

    Storage Preserve food
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. What are some foods you would like to preserve and enjoy later?

I grew jalapenos in my garden this year and made refrigerator jalapenos that will last 6 months in the fridge!  It's kinda canning but easier.

Have you ever thought about food going to waste on this scale before?

I've thought about it but I never really stopped to learn about it.  We all know we waste food but when it's a little here and a little there it doesn't seem like much but it all adds up over time.

Terrible!  I have been so busy working overtime at work that I have missed half of it.

Reflecting on how your grocery trips have gone in the past: do you fill up your cart? Do you think you can fit everything you need into a smaller cart or a basket?

I don't fill the cart unless I am doing our once a month paper/necessities shopping but I do impulse buy sale items that we don't need.

Usually things we grill like brats, hot dogs, it's hard not to just make the whole package.

What successes have you had in reviving limp produce? What can you do so that your produce doesn't go limp in the future?

I grow my own herbs for my rabbit and only pick them when he or we are ready to eat them.

Planning Create a Weekly Meal Plan
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money? How has meal planning helped you avoid waste?

This does not surprise me other than I thought it would be more.  I'd rather use the money to take a trip to see my family.  Meal planning helps me know what I need for the week and only buy what we are missing.

Are there food items you have been better about using up and not wasting since you started keeping an inventory of what's in your fridge?

Yes, the premade salads I buy at the store, I look at the weeks calendar before buying them and then put them in date order of use
