Reflection QuestionWeek 2 Focus: Shopping Attend Week 2's WorkshopWhat was your main takeaway from this workshop?
Alisa Reckinger 11/01/2021 7:25 AMGood reminders about different options for purchasing food - like canned veggies or frozen fruit as a way to get nutritious food when it's not in season. I also didn't know about the whole grain seal on bread. And there was good discussion about options for using up more parts of vegetables that we normally do. -
Reflection QuestionWeek 2 Focus: Shopping Buy Loose Produce and Shop the Bulk BinsHow has buying bulk impacted the amount of food you waste?
Alisa Reckinger 10/21/2021 10:52 AMWe definitely waste less food when I focus on purchasing the right amount of produce for what we will need in our meal plan. My husband is better at that then I am, so I've learned from him how to be more thoughtful and realistic about the amount of fruits and vegetables I purchase. -
Reflection QuestionWeek 1 Focus: Planning Track My Wasted FoodWhat did you find you are tossing the most? How can you change your habits to avoid wasting this food?
Alisa Reckinger 10/21/2021 10:50 AMThe most common items we waste are vegetables and fruits that we bought too much of or just didn't eat - sometimes we buy things as healthy snacks but then never eat them. We also tend to waste the ends of bread and tortillas and half jars of sauces - we just don't focus on using those up or forget to plan a meal around the sauce we have left. So, buying smaller quantities and making a plan for using up leftovers would be good habits for us to focus on!-
Alisa Reckinger 10/22/2021 7:45 AMYes - the packs of buns can be a challenge! We've had good luck freezing extras. We started buying frozen veggie burgers - heating up the burgers and the buns from the freezer makes an easy and quick weeknight meal! -
Mary Karius 10/21/2021 11:04 AMI just composted 6 out of 12 buns because we didn't eat them. How can I purchase less? How can I use what we already have? those are my challenges lately.

Alisa Reckinger 10/13/2021 9:56 AMHey Team! Share what you're excited to focus on during the challenge! I'm going to try and attend or watch all of the workshops, plus will complete the tracking form to see where I could improve.-
Mary Karius 10/21/2021 11:03 AMI'm going to stick to a meal plan better. We've just set up a weekly theme-night plan and we all have input in choosing what we eat AND cooking it.
