I'm involved! I love the different steps which are doable and specific. Easier to do this in steps and increase awareness as you go.
  • Reflection Question
Planning Make Time for Meal Prep
Do you have days when you don't have time to spend making food? How has meal prep helped one those days?

we always have a plan and don't have rely on unhealthy options like fast food. We try to plan meals around the days we know we'll be extra busy and create an easy plan for those days.
  • Reflection Question
Week 3 Focus: Cooking Use the Edible Portion
Have you previously learned about what food is still safe to eat if a portion of it goes bad? Who taught you this information?

I am surprised that am utilizing a lot of our food correctly even if it's not perfect. I'm really aware of imperfect food not being acceptable and therefore requiring producers to use chemical aides to create perfect food. I'm being more deliberate now in buying and using.

What was your main takeaway from this workshop?

Frittata was a great idea and one I hadn't thought of. My hubby (the main cook) and I watched it together and came up with a theme menu plan for each day of the week/weekend. Planning is exciting!
  • Reflection Question
Week 2 Focus: Shopping Source Local Foods
If you were to only eat what is in season locally, what would be the hardest food item for you to give up?

While I'm trying to be really profound here, the truth is peanut butter. Jiff peanut butter. JIFF. I've had it all my life and really tried other options but this late in my life? change doesn't look good. Jiff it is. :)

We meal plan now but tend to have the same stuff over and over. I read a tip about having theme nights and that sounds great! Just have to convince my family :)

here's the themed meal plan my kid developed for our household and I love it - it's enough of a plan that I have guidance but loose enough that I can mold it to what we need to use up in the fridge, vs having to buy for specific meals each week: meatless Monday, taco Tuesday, weird Wednesday (anything goes, including leftovers!), take-out Thursday, fun Friday, spaghetti Saturday, and special Sunday. I think it helped immensely to have my kid create it - he makes sure I stick to it.

we are tossing food that are mainly leftovers. We are cooking TOO much food for three people.

I started doing this a few weeks ago and realize that SO much gets stuck in the back of my fridge. Now I take time to inventory, move forward and clean! it makes my life SO much easier and I now have space for the thousands of condiments my husband has.

I just learned eggs are good for 3-5 weeks AFTER sell-by date. Huge surprise! The rest I did pretty well with and am coming to terms with where to store ketchup!

Do you know about the egg test? Put eggs in a bowl or glass of water. If they sink and lay on their side, they're still good. If they sink but stand on end, they're good but should be eaten soon. If they float, they're not good. We use that trick all the time!
