By composting sampling supplies, to-go containers and other prepared food and beverage serve ware, our weekly Saturday market diverts and average 90-93% of its waste from the landfill, which is roughly 4,000lbs annually. This program allows us to minimize our carbon footprint and strengthen our commitment to sustainability. In addition to waste at the market, we encourage you to think about food waste in the kitchen with the Hennepin County Stop Food Waste Challenge!"

Volunteer as a Zero Waste Educator

Help us educate Mill City Farmers Market visitors about compostable plastics, manage composting stations and collect data for the Zero Waste program! Everyone from Master Recyclers to beginners are welcome and encouraged to participate in our efforts by volunteering as a Zero Waste Educator. There’s no need to be an expert, we train volunteers on the basics at the start of each shift. Shift is 10am to 1:15pm every Saturday of our outdoor season.
