Mary's Actions
Storage
Properly Store Leafy Greens
I will roll unwashed lettuce in a dry towel, then store it in a sealed bag in the refrigerator. I will properly store 2 leafy greens.
Cooking
Swap This for That
If I am missing an ingredient for a recipe I will find a substitute I have on hand and use that instead.
Shopping
Buy Loose Produce and Shop the Bulk Bins
I will buy loose produce with a reusable bag or food from the bulk section to get the exact quantity I need.
Shopping
Eat Before Shopping
I will resist impulse buys by eating a snack or meal before going grocery shopping. Those who grocery shop on an empty stomach spend 64% more than not-hungry shoppers.
Planning
Keep a Food Inventory
I will take a fridge and pantry inventory to stay up to date with what I have at home before I go grocery shopping.
Planning
Plan to Use My Garden or CSA Produce
I will check to see what will be ready to eat in my garden or CSA box this week and plan recipes that use these ingredients.

Mary Campbell 8/17/2022 12:55 PMRabbits got most of the beans in my garden, but after putting chicken wire all the way around the garden, I found a few today that have grown post rabbit. There weren't enough to do much with, but I pickled what I had. I've never pickled green beans before, so we'll see how they taste. -
Mary Campbell 8/12/2022 8:35 AMI hate to recommend a product that is plastic, but I store my lettuce in Rubbermaid Freshworks Produce Saver, and it makes a huge difference. I read about it in a Time magazine article about the best inventions of the year, and I decided to try it. It really works to keep lettuce fresher must longer. -
