Soup scraps
I always keep a container in my freezer for food scraps that can be used in soup. If I chop too much onion, I put the extra in the freezer. When I used fresh broccoli I chop the stems and put them in the freezer. When I have bacon that needs to be used I put it in the soup container if I can't use it before it expires. All of these scraps add flavor to the soup while reducing waste.

Use produce that has started to spoil
When I make my keifer I mix it with fruit. I use fruit that has started to spoil/is bruised. I use as much of the fruit as possible instead of composting the entire piece away.

When dining out I ordered the full portion and shared the portion that I can't eat.

Pam Blomgren 10/07/2020 6:47 PMUnfortunately, the last 3 cucumbers from my garden spoiled. On the flip side, I was able to use tomatoes from my garden that had started to spoil by using them in a baked dish. -
Pam Blomgren 10/07/2020 6:45 PMI purchased imperfect mangoes. I don't know that I'll do that again. Because of the bruise, I needed to store it in the fridge which meant it wasn't able to ripen.
I was given apples from a friend. I agreed to take the windfall apples because I knew I could use them for cooking. I was able to make a batch of applesauce from the compromised apples. -
Pam Blomgren 9/30/2020 8:32 PMHad some grapes that were starting to spoil. Instead of tossing them I washed them and kept the portions that were good.
